Hey everybody! Here’s what we covered in this week’s episode of “Tune Takeover”:

As you guys know, on Tune Takeover I play throwbacks and current singles by bands that have been around for a while and newer bands too. We listen and talk about just how much, or how little, the bands have changed over time and how they relate to each other. Each week I focus on a different genre of music, so this week we talked about some music in the classic-indie genre.

Florence and The Machine was the first band we covered and I was so excited to share her music with you guys. It blows my mind how many people still don’t know about her! Florence Welch is a goddess! Anyway, we talked about her contagious beats, her intense lyrics, and her love for the harp. Her first single, “I’m Not Calling You A Liar” came out back in 2009 and it established her style and sound instantly. She’s so unique for a lot of reasons, but her music choices stand out the most to me. I’ve never heard music like hers! I’m excited to see where she goes from here since she outdoes herself with each album and it’s so hard to find genuine artists these days.

Lana Del Rey was up next on Tune Takeover and she blew me away once again, like she always does. She has a voice that belongs in the 40s but she makes it feel so modern. She likes to slow things down with her classical voice but she still keeps things somewhat modern with the music she uses to compliment her voice. She does a lot of collaborations with other artists, such as The Weekend on “Lust For Life”, and it’s amazing how well she compliments them. She proves that you can take two completely different artists, have them work together to create something, and they make something beautiful.

After the commercial break we listened to Ellie Goulding and got to hear how much she’s changed since she released her first album back in 2010. She started off soft, sweet, and innocent but worked her way up to fierce, ambient, and empowering. She’s come a long way in the past 7 years! Although I love all of her music, I really like how you can be in any mood and she has a song for you. Slow, fast, intense, loving; you name it and Ellie can do it.

Adele was the last artist on my list for the night and she is the perfect closer. So many of her songs are sweet and simple, which is really refreshing since she’s so unique and real too. No auto-tune here! She can sing about love, heartbreak, or standing your ground and she still has that classic ‘Adele sound’.

So that was week 4! I just realized that all of these ladies are very unique in their style, voice, and music choice… Get it ladies! Anyway, thanks for listening and make sure to tune in to the takeover on Monday nights from 6-8 on Bearcast Media! I’ll be seeing you guys.
