Reds Update:

(Post MLB Trade Deadline, Pre-8/1 vs CHC)

NL Central Standings:

CINCINNATI (59-49, .546)

Milwaukee (57-50, .533) – 1.5 GB

Chicago (53-53, .500) – 5.0 GB

Pittsburgh (47-58, .448) – 10,5 GB

St. Louis (47-60, .439) – 11.5 GB

Trade Deadline:

7/31 – The Reds have acquired LHP Sam Moll and international cap space from the Athletics in exchange for minor league RHP Joe Boyle.

Sean Moll slots in as a lefty out of the bullpen alongside Alex Young. Moll, 31, is 0-3 with a 4.54 ERA. He has 46 Ks & 19 BB in 37.2 IP. Important for the Reds with his good splits against lefties, as Young has reverse splits.

Moll:
vs RHH: .276/.424/.355

vs LHH: .197/.254/.303

Of course, with the 3-batter minimum in MLB, lefty specialists aren’t as valuable as before – but having a lefty that pitches well against the same sided hitters will be important for the Reds as they previous didn’t have an arm who fills that role in the bullpen.

Current Team Leaders (pre-8/1 game vs Chicago):
BA: Friedl (.282)

HR: Fraley, Steer (15)

RBI: Fraley (63)

OBP: Steer (.358)
SLG: Steer (.453)
OPS: Steer (.811)

ERA: – (No qualified pitchers)

SO: Greene (100)

WHIP: –

The Reds now enter the month of August as the team to beat in the NL Central. Here’s a look at the schedule:
7/31-8/3 at CHC

8/4-6 vs WSH

8/7-9 vs MIA

8/11-13 at PIT

8/15-16 vs CLE

8/18-20 vs TOR

8/21-23 at LAA

8/24-27 at AZ

8/28-30 at SF

That’s 4 out of 9 teams the Reds will face that are currently in a playoff spot.

Reds Injury Updates (news via Trent Rosecrans, The Athletic):

Hunter Greene: Threw a live BP last week, expected to make his return on August 20th. Expected rehab start with the Louisville Bats on Saturday, August 5th

Nick Lodolo: Threw on the side, expected to make an earlier return then the previously scheduled September timeline. Target date – late August, similar to Greene.

Tejay Antone: Expected to pitch in Louisville tonight (Tuesday, 8/1). If that goes to plan, his return to the Reds bullpen should be soon after.
