The Cincinnati Reds unveiled their Nike City Connect jerseys on 5/13. The jerseys have a black base with letters outlined in red and white spelling out Cincy on the front (not Cinci). The Reds will wear their City Connect jerseys every Friday home game this season… and will debut the jerseys of Friday, 5/19 as they host the New York Yankees and reigning AL MVP Aaron Judge.
The Reds also called up two rookies for their major league debuts in Colorado, infielder Matt McLain and southpaw Brandon Williamson.
Matt McLain was at the top of basically every major hitting stat in AAA baseball before the Reds called him up. Hitting .348/.474/.710, he led all of AAA with an OPS of 1.184. McLain made his MLB debut on Monday against the Rockies, where he batted second and went 1 for 4, scored twice, and walked once. He later recorded his first career RBI on Tuesday on an RB single in the 8th.
Williamson pitched a jem in his major league debut at Coors Field. 5.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K. A WHIP at 0.71 and an ERA at 1.59. Williamson, the #9 prospect in the Reds system, has a 5 pitch arsenal of a cutter, four-seam fastball, slider, changeup, and curveball.
