The music industry is constantly shifting with new news coming out every day. So, I am here to make sure you stay caught up with everything that happened this past week and what to keep an eye on heading into next week.
1Last of the Highwaymen:
It was announced on September 29th that legendary singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson had passed away at his home in Maui at the age of 88. Kristofferson was most known for writing songs such as “Me and Bobby McGee” which was made famous by Janis Joplin in 1971. He was also a part of country music supergroup The Highwaymen and the third member of the group to pass away now just leaving living legend Willie Nelson.
2Oasis’ return comes to America:
2025 will see Liam and Noel Gallagher embark on Oasis’ grand return tour. This past week they announced the dates for this tour and while most of it will be taking place in the UK however, they will be making a quick pit stop in the US to play 5 shows during the end of August and beginning of September. The shows will be in one in Chicago, IL, two in East Rutherford, NJ, and 2 in Pasadena, CA.
3Eternal Sunshine (Deluxe):
On October 1st Ariana Grande surprised fans with a deluxe edition of her latest album Eternal Sunshine. She noted that it would be her last release before she left to focus on the upcoming premier of her movie Wicked which will be hitting theaters this November. The deluxe edition features 7 live songs and remixes of previously released songs featuring Mariah Carey, Troy Sivan, and Brandy and Monica.

4Its officially Brat Fall:
Yep, you read that correctly. Its officially Brat Fall at Charlie XCX has officially announced a new remixed version of her album Brat will be released on October 11th. It will feature a long list of guest artists such as Bon Iver, Troy Sivan, and Addison Rae.
5Florist “gift” their fanbase with a new song and tour:
New York band Florist have released a new song titled “This Was a Gift”. Coupled with the new song was a brand-new tour announcement featuring 17 shows taking place from October 9th to November 24th. The tour will make stops in Australia, New York, Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio.

6Geordie Greep releases debut solo record:
The former Black Midi frontman has released his debut solo album The New Sound. Greep also kicked off his 2024-2025 tour with a show in London back on October 4th. He is playing another show in London tonight before moving onto Wales.

7New “Ever New”:
Keyboards Fantasies genius Beverly Glenn-Copeland has teamed up with Sam Smith for a new version of his classic song “Ever New”. The 80-year-old also played his final show yesterday on October 5th as he was recently diagnosed with dementia and will be stepping back from his long-standing music career to focus on his health.

8Sony makes big “Money” purchase:
Sony music has officially purchased Pink Floyd’s entire catalogue and likeness for $400 Million. The Floyd formed in 1965, but didn’t really make it big until their record breaking 1974 release Darkside of The Moon. This purchase comes as a shock to some fans as the band was always very strongly against the idea of “selling out”. It was a shock to others because it means core members David Gilmour and Roger Waters were able to set aside their 40+ years of feuding to come together and agree on the deal.
9Guts comes to Netflix:
Olivia Rodrigo will be following in the footsteps of Taylor Swift as she announced that her “Guts World Tour” will be made into a Netflix special similar to the likes of Swift’s “Eras Tour”. The special will debut on October 29th.
10Smile! The Smile have a new album:
Radiohead’s Thom Yorke’s current project, The Smile, has released their second album of the year Cutouts. The album clocks in at 10 tracks, each one supposed to be just as eclectic as the last. The group released Wall of Eyes back in January and the album has fair quite well as it peaked at #5 on Billboard’s Top Alternative Albums chart back in February.

11Gambino’s farewell tour cut short:
Childish Gambino has announced the cancellation of the remaining dates on his US and European tour to recover from surgery. Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, announced earlier this year that he would be ending his career as Childish Gambino and stepping away from the music industry to focus on his other projects. He released one final album and embarked on his final tour in July. The tour was supposed to go until February 11th but was abruptly put on pause after his September 7th show in New Orleans to focus on health. On October 4th he updated that the remaining dates would be cancelled and refunds to all ticket holders will be issued.
12Three Days Grace Reunion:
Three Days Grace has announced that original singer Adam Gontier will be rejoining the band. Current vocalist Matt Walst will remain a part of the band as a co-lead vocalist making the rock group a 5-piece for the first time since their original inception under the name Groundswell.
13Coldplay’s Moon Music:
British Pop-Rock group, Coldplay, has released their tenth studio album Moon Music. The album which was released on October 4th has received mix reviews so far, but the band seems to be either looking at what will become their worst album, or it could debut in Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart’s Top 10 proving the band can stand the test of time.
