If the board game clue was or still is your favorite game growing up, then Murder on the Orient Express is the movie for you! This movie brings the board game with some of the old and some new characters to life. There are some new twists in this movie from the board game, such as instead of the murder taking place at a mansion, it takes place on a train. I won’t spoil any of the big surprises in the movie, so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, read on!
Throughout the movie, we see Hercule Poirot, a famous detective portrayed by Kenneth Branagh, trying to figure out who murdered one of the passengers on the train. He sees the world as perfect, which causes him to see all of the imperfections in the world. This helps him solve cases. He is put to the test many different times throughout the movie until the ultimate test at the end. There are 13 passengers on the train, including Hercule Poirot, that are potential suspects for the murder. After the murder occurs, there is a snow avalanche that holds the train up. This causes the rest of the passengers to have to stay on board the train with a murderer. The majority of the movie takes place on the train. There is deceit, some action, a little romance, and clues to help Poirot and the audience figure out who killed the passenger on the train.
Besides the fantastic cast line-up, such as Daisy Ridley, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penelope Cruz, Josh Gad, Johnny Depp, and many more wonderful actors and actresses, I really enjoyed all of the camera angles. The cinematographer, Haris Zambarloukos, did an incredible job on all of the camera angles. Each shot was different from the next in unique and awe striking ways. There was also a good amount of long continuous shots, which I am always a fan of. Along with the great cast and cinematography, the storyline was portrayed well. The actors and actresses really brought their characters to life where I felt like I was on the train with them. The actual storyline, which was based off of a book by Agatha Christie, is portrayed in an interesting and fun way. The only drawback I had was the ending/who the murderer was, which you will see why when you watch the movie. I won’t say anymore so as to not ruin the surprise at the end.
This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole film. One minute you think you know who the murderer is and then the next minute you think it is someone else. Try going into the movie with a guess of who the murderer is beforehand. It is a fun way to put your intuition skills to the test! Overall it is a must see movie that will keep surprising you throughout the entire movie. Write in the comments below if you liked or disliked the ending because I am curious to see how everybody else felt about the ending.
