After sweeping the North Alabama Lions last week in a four-game series, the 6-6 Cincinnati Bearcats will be back in action Wednesday at Earle Combs Stadium to take on the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. The Colonels enter the matchup with a 4-8 record and riding a five-game losing streak. The last time these two teams faced off the Bearcats won 5-2 which was the eighth win in a row in the all-time series.
The Bearcats will be looking to keep the offensive momentum going from this past weekend. In the series against the Lions, the Bearcats’ bats plated an astounding 28 runs on the weekend. On the other side, Bearcats’ pitching will look to do their part against the Colonels. The Bearcats will send out true Freshman Tommy Boba on Wednesday to make the first start of his UC career. Tommy has had two appearances so far this season for the Bearcats. His cumulative stats for 2023 are 2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, and 1 SO. For the Colonels, the right-handed Redshirt Junior, Cameron Kalandros will be toeing the slab. In 2022 Kalandros had a 4.82 ERA in 37.1 innings. Kalandros will square off against a high-powered Bearcat offense that scored eight runs in their last game, including four home runs.
Some of the Colonel bats that the Bearcats are going to try to limit on the day are Junior Miguel Larreal and Senior Logan Thomason. Prior to EKU Larreal spent two seasons at Hillsborough Community College, then one season with the Manatees at State College of Florida before ending up with the EKU Colonels. So far, Larreal has a .351 batting average in 2023 including two doubles and two big flies. His teammate, Logan Thomason has also started the season on a high note. Thomason has a .277 batting average with 13 hits including three doubles and two home runs.
