The Corpse of Anna Fritz should have been called El Cadáver de Anna Fritz, because the whole thing is in Spanish. That being said, it was probably one of the best films I’ve ever seen, definitely the best foreign language film. It’s about a famous actress, Anna Fritz, who has very recently died and been taken to a morgue. A guy who works at the morgue brings in his two friends to see her, and one of them has the idea of having sex with her dead body. During the necrophilic act, Anna wakes up. She’s NOT a zombie, she was just never really fully dead. The film is incredibly exciting. I found myself not even paying attention to the subtitles half of the time, because the emotion of the characters was enough to fill in the gaps. Four years of Spanish class might have helped a little as well. There’s almost no real climax in the movie, simply because there are so many climaxes throughout. This was easily the best film I saw at SXSW. I would highly recommend seeing it if you get the chance.
